March 24 Linear Formulas Do Not Move Us Exponentially

Mark Queen • Mar 23, 2024

When linear seems boring consider going exponential.

What are we doing that is a linear progression in our business? When a business designs systems so that they allow only step by step progression, the likely result is going to be linear. It is possible for systems to be focused on methods which are exponential.

This kind of growth, value and result is what can fuel rapid change. Our systems can be either of the two. Challenges and opportunities can also be linear or exponential. When we meet a challenge that is linear it does not require us to solve it in a linear way.

Think of a need for simple shade desired to provide people relief in a hot climate. One could plant a tree to grow tall and provide shade. But one could just as easily consider a tree that rapidly reproduces itself so that a forest might soon appear.

Opportunities can be captured to benefit our own teams or even a specific team member. But why not consider how an opportunity could be solved exponentially and help hundreds or thousands of teams or people. Where are we moving in our businesses in just a linear manner?

What can we do to consider transformation of the issue exponentially? Is it worthy of your attention in the next seven days?

As people who are limited by our perceptions, we might tend to think linear as well in our faith. Where am I falling short and need forgiveness? That is a one stop idea. But what if the thought is changed to where do I need to give forgiveness which I could be causing others to not be as close to God as possible?

That is an exponential question. The verse in 2 Thessalonians 11:1 shows an example of how we might grow. We are told that the people of the church are being prayed for which is linear. We also see that by God’s power, he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.

That fulfillment by God is exponential. The exponential power of God is available to us by the Holy Spirit. Where are we being linear in our faith and actions? Jesus did not die on the cross for just the generation that he walked the earth with.

He died for generation after generation of believers which is exponential. How will we act so that the good news can grow exponentially through us collaborating with the Holy Spirit? What is the first thing that you can do today to grow exponentially?

Let us pray, Jesus, thank you for your linear relationship with me. You are direct and there is nothing between you and us. You have called us to be part of an exponential expression of love. You want every ounce of our being to be called to you to move.

Let us love others exponentially. Let your love cover the earth and the people in it. Remove the barriers that limit us and especially remove those linear thoughts where we might be comfortable. Please use multiplication in our lives instead of us using addition. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
