March 21 Pick Two Specials Might Not Be The Best Deals!

Do you want your brain surgeon juggling his focus?

Have you ever heard that phrase, too much information? It is used when someone hears something what they thought was inappropriate to be shared. But we have too much information all the time. It is so much information that our brain filters out the stimuli so that just what it believes is needed comes through.

This highlights the importance of deciding what to give our attention to so that we have the most positive result. As entrepreneurs and leaders, we must learn to pick one, not two. Can we limit ourselves with one activity to occupy our mind?

The distractions and information will continue to chase and pursue us like an important paper being dropped accidentally in the wind. We can easily jump from one focus to another within areas of our families, finances, faith or our different business activities, and personal development.

The list goes on and on. But for this moment, can I purpose myself for the next hour and a half, to be focused on only one thing? After ninety minutes I can rest and handle some distractions, but then back to focus.

What is the one thing that you can do in the next seven days that would be valuable to your organization? What is the first thing you can do to give it your entire focus for ninety minutes? Just how productive might this concept make us for the day or week?

As a Christian, we have examples in the Bible of God picking one. In the Old Testament, we know of Moses' leadership. God picked Moses; Moses picked Aaron. Leaders have successors, Joshua was picked as Moses’ replacement. God gave us Jesus Christ. He is the example that we are to follow.

I see lots of successors with a purpose. John the Baptist was not the Savior, he knew it and that was ok, but John still was able to focus on his work to progress the message. That was his part, so what is yours? This book is written so that our theme of Sunday is focus.

The reason is because we are called to take a Sabbath day and to do that requires focus. To rest in the comfort of God’s hands for a day can be difficult for many people. I suspect that many have never experienced a full day of resting with God. It is certainly a worthy objective to pursue.

Are we willing to pursue it like we chase after that important document we might have dropped in the wind? Could it be we have the attitude that the wind is just blowing too fast, and it would be impossible to catch that document as it darts from one spot to another.

Perhaps that ability to focus for an entire day of rest can be accomplished by achieving one small step of just ninety minutes to begin with. What is the one thing you can do in the next seven days to draw closer to Jesus? What is the first thing you can do to make that happen?

Our relationship with Christ is not a pick-two-special at a restaurant. Jesus wants us wholly, not divided between the two.

Let us pray, Jesus, we recognize your single sacrifice you made for us. We have made the single most important decision in our life which is to follow you. We are conflicted by the information that we are exposed to on a minute-by-minute basis.

We do not need a pick-two-special to have an impact for you. Help us to draw nearer to you today. We pick you. Help us as we focus on the one thing that will draw us to you today. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
