April 8. It Might Be Partly Cloudy. Then Again It Might Not.

The weather forecast is a helpful tool for leaders of organizations, families, and companies. We make decisions around it. We close our businesses when threatened by hurricanes and typhoons. We bend our manufacturing of products and services sometimes to meet the demands of the weather.

Our schedules certainly get modified by the weather as well. When a heat wave hits in the summer, construction and roofing crews commonly adjust the start of their day. They start during the very early cool of the morning so to stop before the intense heat occurs in the afternoon.

But where does the weather forecast not help us? We cannot interpret many things about our business with the accuracy of a weather forecast. The pop-up thunderstorms of the summer still are not accurately predicted. Ask a weatherman where a tornado will be three days from now.

You will not get an accurate prediction. We cannot forecast when our employees are not going to perform in a superior fashion or just plain fail. We do not know when they, their family members or ourselves are going to become ill. Those events will affect our business.

Where are we believing and having confidence in a forecast that might be far from reality? Relying on a forecast could be dangerous if leaders, team members, employees cannot show up for the tasks assigned to them? How will your clients be damaged or harmed when those failed tasks occur?

What is the first thing we can do to have an emergency or contingency plan to address the risks?

This passage was written a long time ago and is forewarning us as believers about interpretations. "You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you do not know how to interpret the present times." (Luke‬ 12‬: 56‬ NLT). How true does that relate to your life today?

 It is possible that we might be looking at the weather forecast and receiving a false hope in our ability to predict our activities that we should do. We plan to stay inside when the forecast is for rain. We run to the grocery store for food and stocking up when the heavy snow is predicted.

We can place false hope in other things as well because of forecasts. Where might the media companies be serving us their interpretations? I believe that a media report is just one perspective. When we begin to allow others to interpret for us, we might be spending less time asking God for his interpretation.

I think that I would trust the interpretation of Jesus more than anyone else. Maybe we can try to trust Jesus’ interpretation this week. Today seems like a pretty good place to start. It may help us to be accountable to valuing another perception.
