Spiritual Leadership in the Home
Question:
I want to instill faith-based principles in my children.
How do I reach them—and excite them—to explore their relationship with God?
Faith-Based Guidelines for Leading at Home
1. Model Before You Teach
“Train up a child in the way he should go.” ~ Proverbs 22:6
- Solution: Let your daily actions reflect the faith you want them to follow.
2. Meet Them Where They’re At
“I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” ~ 1 Corinthians 9:22
- Solution: Connect through their interests, language, and stage of life. Faith grows best in familiar soil.
3. Make Faith Relational, Not Just Ritual
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart.” ~ Deuteronomy 6:5
- Solution: Talk about God in everyday life—not just on Sundays.
4. Create Safe Space for Questions
“Come, let us reason together.” ~ Isaiah 1:18
- Solution: Invite curiosity. Don’t shut down doubts—walk through them together.
5. Celebrate Small Steps
“Do not despise small beginnings.” ~— Zechariah 4:10
- Solution: Affirm their efforts. Make spiritual growth joyful, not pressured.
6. Lead with Love, Not Fear
“Perfect love drives out fear.” ~ 1 John 4:18
- Solution: Avoid guilt-based teaching. Inspire through grace, truth, and connection.
