March 19. Who Would Carry You And Tear Off A Roof For You?

Mark Queen • Mar 18, 2024

We are better as part of a team.

In business and life, we are better as part of a team. We are blessed with different unique attitudes, abilities, talents, and skills. It is when we put together the right people, for the right effort, that we can achieve amazing results.

When we try to make things happen all on our own, we can struggle to even make the journey start. We can have great intentions but sometimes do not know the first action to take. We can know what result we are looking for but not have the stamina to get there.

A team though can complement us. When we struggle to start, someone on the team can push us just a little or maybe they might even make the first step and pull us along. When we have a great new product or idea someone else on the team might have a resource or idea to bring it to market quicker.

We can use the energy of a team to assist each other making our stamina to last longer. Who is missing from your team that might help you do things faster, better, and less expensively with more confidence? What can you do in the next seven days to start to remedy the situation?

In Luke 5:18, we read about the four men that carry a man on a mat, taking him to Christ. The team knew the result they were looking for. The ailing man was ready to be healed. The carriers of the mat knew where Jesus was, so off they went.

But the crowd was thick, so much so, that they could not get to Jesus. So, what happens next? They get the idea to go up. They go onto the roof, they remove the roof tiles, and lower him down. It is here that the opportunity met with the possibility of a miracle and Christ performs the miracle.

That is a great example to us of teamwork! Who is on your team this week? What can you do to express your appreciation to them for their sometimes-heroic efforts? How might you thank them for their uniqueness that is simply them?

Is your team ready to climb to the top of the roof, remove tiles, and risk dropping a member to bring about the results needed? If our teams are not ready to do that, then our teams need work. What is the first thing you need to do this week to serve Christ with your team?

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, sometimes we tend to think that we can do it ourselves. We think that we can do everything we need. But we acknowledge that it all starts with you. You have given us all that we have. Let us work together today to bring your message of love to others.

Help us to build our teams so that your name might be glorified. Make our heroic efforts be done every day to bring people to you so that the Holy Spirit might work within them. Encourage us to rise to the challenges that seem to be above us, even on rooftops.

Guide us and strengthen us as we work on our teams to bring ourselves closer to you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
