April 17. Who Is Yelling? You Or The Team?
Why is your yelling not being heard?
I once knew of a story about a blind man. It goes like this. A blind man goes to a dentist to get his sight repaired and he leaves with a cavity filled. I do not believe that is good service. But how would a blind man go to a dentist in the first place?
It might have been that the dentists message going out to the world was not the right message. If we do not have the right message being delivered, it is likely to miss the right audience we want to do business with.
This can happen as easily with internal messages with employees as it can with our audience of potential clients and customers. Where have your messages been unclear in the last week or month? Look for areas of frustration as a clue. It might be that it was your message or the communication link.
When frustration occurs, our attitudes we wish to employ can get hijacked. Although the desired attitudes are available, they are not used because of the hijacked status that frustration has achieved. Curiousness can remove some of the power of the hijacker.
I wonder what would remove our frustration the quickest. Developing a clear message to the right audience is a great way to avoid the frustration in the first place. What can you do to remove an old message completely and start a new, more effective one today?
There are many stories in the Bible of miraculous hearings. Did Jesus just walk around the earth and anything that he could place his eyes on was healed? Was he like a superhero from a comic book? Jesus sees something, puts his hands out and points and says be healed? That was not the norm as we know it.
It might have happened sometimes. But I want us to focus on the story of the blind man who is healed as Jesus is on his way to Judah. He tells the disciples they are headed to Judah. A crowd is surely with them. As they are on the trip a blind man hears the people passing.
He asks what is going on and is told that Jesus of Nazareth is coming. It is time for the most important message of his life. The blind beggar needs to have a clear message with this audience. He needs to be heard so he begins to yell.
He is hushed by the crowd, but he will not allow his message to be stopped so he continues yelling “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Luke 18: 43 NLT. Jesus stopped and began to be in relationship with him. “What do you want?” he asked, and the blind man said, "I want to see."
He was healed and followed Jesus immediately. Where has your message in your witness to others not been clear? Where in your relationships have you been receiving unclear messages and working with frustration because of it?
Let us work on our messages for the next seven days and leave some of the frustration we cause behind. What is the first message you need to clean up and can you deliver a new one in the next seven days?
Let us pray, Heavenly Father, I thank you for the rain that falls to the earth and the scent of renewal. Today I will praise your Holy name and live-in wonder. I pray that the messages that I deliver this week will be clear as those that the beggar spoke to Jesus along the road.
May we be strong enough in our relationships to validate the messages we receive which are not clear. Help us in our efforts to obey your message to follow you. Comfort us Lord as we stretch to do our best. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen,
